14-Day Okinawa + Mainland Japan Itinerary, Private Driver

"Okinawa and the golden route" is the itinerary travelers assume needs three weeks. The version that fits fourteen days isn't about rushing — it's about three logistics tricks most itineraries never use: region-local cars, a luggage-carrying vehicle meeting a sightseeing train, and bags that travel a day ahead of their owners.

The three logistics tricks worth stealing
- Region-local cars, no empty miles. The Okinawa day ran on a Naha-based vehicle; the mainland used Kansai then Kanto cars. Nobody pays to ferry a van across the East China Sea — the same six-region network logic as our grand tour's Hiroshima handoff.
- The train-and-luggage split (Day 6). Guests got the Aoniyoshi sightseeing express experience; the Alphard got the suitcases and met them at Nara's station. One 12-hour line item replaced a transfer, a Nara day tour and a baggage headache.
- Bags a day ahead (Day 8). Yamato forwarding (¥3,000/piece + 10% handling, concierge drop by 08:30, next-day delivery) is what made "theme park, then onsen ryokan, then outlets" physically possible as a transfer route. Nobody rides Fuji-Q's coasters with four suitcases in the locker room. Full playbook: traveling Japan light.
The day worth studying stop-by-stop
Day 2 — the Blue Cave coast — is the reason this trip exists at all: Okinawa's best coastline has no rail and thin taxis, and the 10-hour charter is what replaces the jet-lagged rental car. Full stop-by-stop version of this day →
