Hiroshima & Miyajima by Private Car: Real 8h Itinerary

Quick Answer The Hiroshima day that works from Osaka is a hybrid, exactly as our network operated it in June 2026: Shinkansen to Hiroshima (~1.5h), a Hiroshima-based HiAce waiting at the station for an 8-hour charter — ¥72,000 all-inclusive (¥14,400/person for five) — Peace Memorial Park and Museum in the morning, the Miyajimaguchi ferry and Itsukushima's floating torii in the afternoon, Shinkansen home to an Osaka dinner transfer. A local car beats dragging your touring vehicle 300 km each way. Book in 30 seconds at rydagent.com.

Reproduced from the operations sheet of a real June 2026 grand tour (party of 5, licensed English-speaking guide added for this day). Timings show the typical flow.

Hiroshima is the day travelers most often regret compressing — and most often plan wrong, by trying to charter their Kansai car for a 600 km round trip. The professional pattern costs less and sees more: let the Shinkansen do the distance, and let a Hiroshima-based car do the day.

The alternative you should price first: trams and the ferry

Hiroshima is genuinely easy without a car, and a page that skipped straight to charter pricing would be leaving out the option most visitors should take.

LegHowCost per personTime
Hiroshima Station → Peace ParkHiroden tram, directA few hundred yen on the city flat fare~15–20 min
Peace Park → MiyajimaguchiHiroden tram (or JR Sanyo Line)¥270 from Hiroshima Station end to end, ~75 min~1 hr
Miyajimaguchi → MiyajimaFerry — unavoidable, for everyone¥200 adult / ¥100 child each way, roughly every 15 min~10 min
Setting foot on the islandMiyajima visitor tax¥100
Whole day, transit onlyroughly ¥1,000–1,100

The point that decides this route, and it is not in our favour: Miyajima is an island. Everybody takes the ferry — a private car cannot cross, it waits at Miyajimaguchi. So on the single most memorable half of this day, the car buys you nothing at all. What it replaces is a ¥270 tram ride.

Against roughly ¥1,000 per person on trams and ferries, the 8-hour charter at ¥72,000 is about ¥8,000 each for a party of nine, or ¥18,000 each for four. That is a real gap and we are not going to dress it up.

Where the car does earn it

  • Group size and luggage. Nine people with cases moving between Hiroshima Station, the Peace Park and Miyajimaguchi on trams is a different experience from nine people in one vehicle. The tram is fine with a daypack and awkward with a suitcase.
  • The morning and evening ends. The car takes you from the hotel door to the Peace Park entrance and collects you from the ferry terminal at dusk — the two moments when a tired group with a heavy museum visit behind them least wants to work out a tram platform.
  • Pace. The museum deserves an unhurried morning and the island rewards a late afternoon. A car lets the day breathe; the tram makes you decide in advance.
  • Hiroshima-based HiAce, 8 hours: ¥72,000 (¥9,000/h, driver, fuel, tolls and parking included), dispatched from the local depot rather than driven ~300 km from Kansai — which is why the hours go to the sites rather than the expressway.

When to skip it: if you are one to four people travelling light and staying in Hiroshima anyway, take the tram and the ferry. It is about a tenth of the cost, it runs every few minutes, and it goes to exactly the same two places.

The sequencing logic

Peace Park in the morning is deliberate: the museum is quietest early, and the visit deserves unhurried space. Miyajima rewards the afternoon — softer light on the torii, day-trip crowds ebbing on the later ferries. The operated run followed exactly this arc, with the guide managing tone as much as tickets: heavy morning, gentle afternoon. Reverse it and you get the museum at peak crush and the island at its most crowded.

The driver contacted us as soon as we landed in Tokyo. He provided clear instructions how to meet after we got our luggage. He had to wait an extra 30 mins since our plane was delayed. Great service, great / clean car and a nice ride to our hotel. Thanks.

My wife and I had a flawless experience using this transfer service from Tokyo's Haneda Airport to Central Tokyo. Although we are in our 70s, we are experienced travelers and usually take public transit or a taxi from airports to hotels. However, this was our first trip to Asia and with a 12-hour flight from Chicago, we decided that we needed to make the hotel transfer easy. And it was. Communication with the company was excellent. They messaged me through WhatsApp several times to make everything was clear. In fact, I messaged them when we landed, that the plane was an hour early and hoped they could pick us up sooner. They responded yes and sure enough our driver,John, was there to meet us past customs. John was very friendly and very professional. His English was excellent. He handled the luggage. The vehicle was comfortable. He made us feel welcome. I highly recommend them and would use them again without hesitation.

Great experience using this private transfer from our hotel to Haneda Airport. Booking was easy, and when we needed to adjust our pickup time, the operator was very responsive. The driver arrived on time and the ride was smooth and stress-free. Would definitely use again.

Professional service that takes the stress out of airport transfers. Our family has been to Tokyo a few times. Airport transfer by train, taxi, and private car. This service is good value, especially for groups. We had a very comfortable and well kept vehicle. Driver was very professional, polite, and easy to work with. We had an hour long flight delay and sat on the runway for 20 minutes after landing. This service was very flexible and helpful through the situation. Driver was patiently waiting when we arrived.

Karazawa Ryou was our driver. He texted us his contact info via Whatsap the day before our flight. In between flights, we learned that our connecting flight had been delayed. Instead of arriving at 9:15pm, we would now be arriving at I1:30pm. Such a significant amount of delay time...plus, arriving so much LATER at night, I was worried that our driver would no longer be able to pick us up. I notified him, and he responded, "Don't worry. I'll wait for you. See you later." He even included a smiley face! I went from panic to peace in an instant. As we were exiting the plane, I received a text from him notifying me that we had landed at Terminal 2, so it would be quicker to get out. I should let him know once we had picked up our luggage, and he would be at the exit within one minute with a sign. I was pleasantly surprised at how smoothly this process went, and the SUV exceeded my expectations. It was lush and immaculately clean. I commend the driver on his professionalism and would not hesitate to hire him again. This experience was BETTER THAN PERFECT!

Excellent experience from start to finish. Communication before arrival was clear and professional, and the driver was waiting exactly as instructed after we cleared customs at Haneda Airport. After a long international flight, having a smooth private transfer to our hotel made a huge difference. The vehicle was clean and comfortable, the ride was efficient, and the entire process felt very organized and stress-free. We especially appreciated the prompt responses and easy coordination through WhatsApp. Highly recommend KJ Tour for anyone arriving in Tokyo and wanting a reliable, comfortable airport transfer experience.
