On this route, usually yes — public transport here is slow and indirect, so a private car is direct door-to-door and fixed at ¥20,000; for a party of 4 that's ≈¥5,000 each with zero transfers. Per person, one or two travellers with light luggage will still pay less on public transport — the private car wins on luggage, group size and not changing trains, not on being the cheapest.

A taxi's real advantage is that it's there without booking, and for one or two people with light bags that's often the sensible choice — we won't pretend otherwise. Where it fits less well is the longer run to Bunkyo. The fare is metered — for this distance it runs about ¥15,000–20,000 with the expressway tolls and booking fee on top, and the meter climbs higher in heavy traffic or with a 20% night surcharge between 22:00 and 05:00. Booked through an app, the figure you accept at request time is an estimate — the card is charged whatever the meter and the taxi company's pickup fee actually come to. A sedan taxi seats only 4 with room for a bag or two, can't fit a child seat, and with a language barrier it's hard to explain exactly where you need to go. We're fixed at ¥20,000 — inside the meter's typical range but locked in advance, with tolls and any night surcharge included; no pickup fee, no return fee, no clock running at red lights or in traffic, and apart from waiting beyond the free allowance nothing else is ever charged — and you get a premium Alphard or a HiAce (up to 9 passengers), child seats on request, and a driver who picks you up at your door, on time.
A note before comparing: Uber's premium tiers (Black / Premier) only cover pickups in Japan's major metro areas and a handful of airports, and Daikoku Pier Cruise Terminal isn't on Uber's published coverage list as of July 2026 — so for this pickup it's usually not a bookable option at all. Uber's standard tier, where the app has cars, dispatches a regular metered taxi (about ¥15,000–20,000 here). The Alphard seats up to 4 with 4 large suitcases plus personal bags on your lap (with fewer passengers, empty seats carry luggage too: passengers plus large suitcases up to 8); the HiAce seats up to 9 with 9 large suitcases (passengers plus large suitcases up to 18) — a full-size van that Uber and the taxi apps don't offer (their largest options seat 5) and that jumbo taxis only match by advance reservation through a taxi company, so your whole group stays together in one vehicle. We can't see your bags in advance, so if passengers plus large suitcases go over those totals, we'd suggest the HiAce or a second car — a suggestion, not a requirement. Infant and child seats (both forward-facing) and booster cushions are ¥2,000 each and need to be booked in advance.
A private transfer is a direct ride. One short stop on the way — under 30 minutes, such as a photo or a convenience store — can be added with Driver assistance (¥3,000 Alphard / ¥4,000 HiAce) when you book; write the stop in your booking notes. For two or more stops, or any stop of 30 minutes or more, book a private charter by the hour instead — the car waits while you sightsee. On drives of more than two hours, restroom breaks on the way are free.

No. Daikoku Pier has no railway station of its own — Yokohama's own tourism authority states plainly that you cannot get there by train alone. The nearest stops are the Daikoku Zeikan-Seimon-mae and Daikoku Zeikan-mae bus stops, reached by bus from Tsurumi Station or Motomachi-Chukagai Station. Any train itinerary you see for this pier ends with a bus or taxi leg that the timetable does not show you. That last leg, with cruise luggage, is why most passengers arrive by car.
Daikoku Pier opened in 2019 on the far side of the Yokohama Bay Bridge, built to berth the largest cruise ships — the ones too tall to pass under the bridge and reach the central terminal. Osanbashi is that central terminal, in downtown Yokohama near Yamashita Park, and it is served by bus from Yokohama Station and Sakuragicho. The two are a 20-plus-minute drive apart, and the same cruise line can use either, so check which one is printed on your ticket before you book anything.
Yes. The price you see is the price you pay — tolls, parking, fuel and taxes are all included. Free waiting at pickup is 30 minutes. Tipping is never expected — never required. The only extras are options you choose yourself, such as child seats or waiting beyond the free allowance. After the free 30 minutes your driver may have another booking, so he can wait longer only if his schedule allows — if you might be late, tell us as early as possible; if he can't wait, we do our best to make it work, and if that isn't possible he has to leave and the ride is cancelled without a refund. Any extra waiting is ¥6,000/hour for an Alphard and ¥8,000/hour for a HiAce, in 15-minute blocks (under 15 minutes is free). If we get no reply from you on any channel the day before and on the day itself, the driver may leave once the free 30 minutes are up — that counts as a no-show and is not refunded.
