By public transport, Tokyo Station to Atami is ~45 min by Tokaido Shinkansen Kodama, but most Izu ryokan require a further local train or taxi (Shuzenji is 2 hours via the Odoriko limited express, which runs only 7x/day and has fixed schedules that are hard to adjust if you're running late from your Tokyo hotel). Shuzenji inland ryokan like Arcana Izu and Asaba are 10+ minutes from the nearest station by taxi — not obvious to find in the dark.
