Narita Airport to Izu Peninsula

By public transport, Narita to Atami or Shuzenji takes 3.5–4.5 hours with 2 transfers: Narita Express to Tokyo Station, then Tokaido Shinkansen to Atami (~45 min) or the JR Odoriko limited express direct to Shuzenji (~2h, ~7 trains/day). The Odoriko is charming but runs a fixed schedule that is tough to match with a delayed international arrival. A private car takes you directly from the Narita arrivals gate to your Izu ryokan in about 3.5 to 4 hours via the Metropolitan Expressway and Tomei. The Izu Peninsula is the Tokyo-area onsen and coastal ryokan region — Atami for grand-hotel style, Ito and Ajiro for quieter ocean views, Shuzenji for traditional bamboo-grove inland ryokan. Luxury ryokan like Arcana Izu, Asaba, and Atami Kaihourou are directly accessible by car and have very limited public transit connections. Best for honeymooners and couples doing a 2–3 night Izu onsen stay.
