This was such an easy stress free experience. I have taken many airport transfers and this was by far the easiest and most efficient experience I have ever had. The communication was frequent and proactive. I cannot say enough about this company. 100% recommend
Can I bring a guide dog or assistance dog?
Last updated:
Yes — guide dogs, mobility service dogs and hearing dogs ride with you on RydAgent transfers and charters in Japan, free of charge and without a carrier. Japan's Act on Assistance Dogs for Persons with Physical Disabilities says public transport operators must not refuse an assistance dog in their vehicles, and every RydAgent ride is run by a licensed partner transport company covered by that rule. Tell us when you book, in NOTES, so your driver is ready. Assistance dogs certified outside Japan ride the same way; tell us at booking and we confirm with your driver in advance.
How to travel with your assistance dog
- 1
Tell us in NOTES when you book
Write “guide dog”, “mobility service dog” or “hearing dog”, so your driver can prepare.
- 2
No carrier, no extra charge
Your dog rides with you as it is. The fixed price for your vehicle doesn't change.
- 3
Bring the dog's tag and papers
Under the Act, an assistance dog in Japan wears its official tag, and its user carries the dog's documents and shows them if asked.
What does Japanese law say?
In Japan, “assistance dogs” (身体障害者補助犬) means guide dogs, mobility service dogs and hearing dogs certified under the Act on Assistance Dogs for Persons with Physical Disabilities (Article 2). Article 8 says public transport operators must not refuse a person with a disability travelling with an assistance dog in the vehicles they use to carry passengers — in the original, 身体障害者補助犬を同伴することを拒んではならない.
My assistance dog is certified outside Japan — can it ride?
Yes, on the same terms: no carrier and no charge. Tell us at booking and we confirm with your driver in advance. Japan's Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare notes that the Act doesn't cover dogs certified abroad, and asks overseas users to get a Temporary Certificate from a registered Japanese certifying organisation before travelling; every dog entering Japan must also meet its rabies import rules, which can take seven months or more to prepare.
What about emotional support animals and pets?
Other animals, emotional support animals included, ride under the pet rule: in a soft or hard carrier for the whole ride, at no extra charge.
