Hokkaido Transfers: New Chitose Airport to All Destinations
CTS to Niseko / Furano / Tomamu: Why most travelers pre-book private
Flying into New Chitose (CTS) and heading to Niseko, Furano, Tomamu, or Lake Toya? Here's what public transport actually looks like: CTS → Niseko via JR + bus takes 3+ hours with 2 transfers and a 45-minute station-to-resort taxi at the end (¥6,500+/person all-in). The seasonal direct bus runs only Dec–March, fills up days in advance, takes 3 hours fixed, and stops running if your flight delays past 18:00 — meaning you're stuck in Chitose overnight. For Tomamu and Lake Toya, there is no practical public-transport option at all.
A private transfer from CTS bypasses all of this: ¥54,000 fixed for an Alphard (4 pax + 4 large suitcases + ski bags), driver waiting at arrivals with snow tires fitted Nov–Apr, door-to-door to your specific lodge or hotel in 2–2.5 hours. RydAgent has processed 13,000+ Narita and Haneda airport transfers since Dec 2025 through our 6-partner DMC network (Hokkaido routes handled by 株式会社和行天下, Sapporo, corporate number 9430001093462). All vehicles run on Japanese green-plate (commercial passenger) license with Type 2 commercial-licensed drivers and 24/7 English-speaking dispatcher in Tokyo. Below is every major route from CTS, with pricing for both vehicle types where available.
Vehicles
- Toyota Alphard — up to 4 passengers, 4 large suitcases. Available on all routes.
- Toyota HiAce Grand Cabin — up to 9 passengers, 9 large suitcases. Available on select routes only (see table below).
Important for groups of 5 or more: Some routes below are Alphard-only — no HiAce is available. If your group has 5+ passengers, you'll need to book 2 Alphards for those routes. We'll coordinate both vehicles to arrive together.
Routes with Both Alphard & HiAce
These routes offer both vehicle options. HiAce is ideal for groups up to 9.
| Destination | Approx. Time | Alphard (up to 4 pax) | HiAce (up to 9 pax) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sapporo | 50-70 min | ¥32,000 | ¥41,000 |
| Otaru | 90-120 min | ¥54,000 | ¥55,000 |
| Noboribetsu | 60-80 min | ¥62,000 | ¥75,000 |
| Jozankei Onsen | 70-90 min | ¥50,000 | ¥55,000 |
| Asahikawa | 2.5-3 hrs | ¥63,000 | ¥71,000 |
Alphard-Only Routes (No HiAce Available)
The following destinations are served by Alphard only. No HiAce is available on these routes. Groups of 5+ passengers will need 2 Alphards.
| Destination | Approx. Time | Alphard (up to 4 pax) | HiAce |
|---|---|---|---|
| Niseko | 2-2.5 hrs | ¥54,000 | Not available |
| Lake Toya (Toyako) | 90-120 min | ¥54,000 | Not available |
| Tomamu (Hoshino Resort) | 90-120 min | ¥54,000 | Not available |
| Kiroro | 2-2.5 hrs | ¥54,000 | Not available |

Cost Comparison: Private Transfer vs Bus vs JR for Hokkaido Routes
Numbers below are 2026 published rates. Use this when deciding between RydAgent private transfer and public-transport combinations.
| Route from CTS | RydAgent Private (Alphard fixed) | Public Transport (per person) | Time Difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Niseko (Hirafu) | ¥54,000 (2-2.5 hrs) | Bus ¥3,200/pax (Dec-Mar only, 3 hrs fixed) OR JR + bus ¥6,500+/pax (3.5+ hrs, 2 transfers) | Private saves 1-1.5 hrs + zero transfers |
| Sapporo (central) | ¥32,000 (50-70 min) | JR Rapid ¥1,150/pax (37 min) + station taxi ¥1,500-2,500 | Private door-to-door; JR competitive for 1-2 pax |
| Tomamu (Hoshino Resort) | ¥54,000 (90-120 min) | No practical public route. JR to Tomamu Station + 5 min free shuttle, but JR runs ~5 trains/day | Private always wins — public is impractical |
| Furano | ¥56,000 (2-2.5 hrs) | JR + bus ¥4,000-6,000/pax (3+ hrs, transfers in Asahikawa) | Private saves 30-60 min + handles ski/lavender gear |
| Otaru | ¥54,000 (90-120 min) | JR Rapid ¥1,910/pax (~70 min direct) | JR competitive solo; private wins for 3+ pax with luggage |
| Lake Toya | ¥54,000 (90-120 min) | JR + bus ¥4,500/pax (2-2.5 hrs, transfers) | Private direct; public requires Toya Station transfer |
Per-person breakeven: RydAgent Alphard ¥54K = ¥13,500/pax for 4 travelers. At that price you're comparing direct private door-to-door vs. public transit with transfers + final taxi. For families with kids, ski equipment, or late arrivals, private wins decisively.

Seasonal Guide: When to Visit Where
Ski Season (December – March)
Hokkaido is famous for some of the driest, lightest powder snow on earth. The main resort runs are the New Chitose to Niseko corridor (2-2.5 hrs in winter), the New Chitose to Hoshino Resorts Tomamu route (90-120 min — the closest major resort to CTS), and the New Chitose to Furano route for powder plus mid-price lift tickets. During peak ski season (late December through February), roads can be snowy and icy — driving times increase. Our drivers are experienced in winter conditions and use snow tires, but please allow extra time.
For ski groups: Niseko, Kiroro, and Rusutsu are Alphard-only. If you have 5+ people with ski equipment, book 2 Alphards. The extra vehicle also gives you more luggage space for boots, boards, and bags.
Lavender Season (July)
Furano's lavender fields peak in mid to late July. Farm Tomita is the most famous spot, but there are fields across the Furano-Biei area. A private transfer lets you go directly from the airport to your accommodation near the fields — no train changes, no bus timetables.
Autumn Colors (October)
Hokkaido's autumn arrives earlier than the rest of Japan. Jozankei Onsen and Lake Toya are particularly beautiful in early to mid-October. Combine a scenic drive with an onsen stay for the best autumn experience.

FAQ
Why don't some routes have HiAce?
Mountain resort routes like Niseko, Rusutsu, and Kiroro involve narrow roads and steep grades where our HiAce Grand Cabin isn't optimal. We offer Alphard only on these routes for safety and comfort. Groups of 5+ can book 2 Alphards — we coordinate both vehicles to travel together.
Can I bring ski/snowboard equipment?
Yes. The Alphard fits 4 passengers and 4 large suitcases. Ski bags take up suitcase space, so plan accordingly. If your group has bulky gear, 2 Alphards give you the room you need.
How long does it take to get to Niseko in winter?
Summer: about 2 hours. Winter: 2.5-3 hours depending on road conditions. Heavy snowfall days can push this further. Our drivers monitor conditions and take the safest route. See the full New Chitose to Niseko transfer page for fixed pricing and the exact Alphard-only policy.
Is there a direct bus to Niseko from the airport?
There is a seasonal bus, but it runs on a fixed schedule, takes 2.5-3 hours, and doesn't go door-to-door. If your flight is delayed, you miss the bus. A private Chitose-to-Niseko transfer waits for you and takes you directly to your lodge or hotel. For Hoshino Resorts guests, the Chitose-to-Tomamu route is a much shorter 90-120 min drive and skips the bus entirely.
Can I book a round trip?
Yes. Book your airport-to-destination and return-to-airport transfers separately. Both get fixed pricing and driver coordination.
Ready to book your Hokkaido transfer?
Skip the bus queues and JR transfers. Pre-book a fixed-price RydAgent Alphard or HiAce — driver from our Sapporo partner 株式会社和行天下 waiting at New Chitose Airport when you land.
