One naming trap: everything the apps label a 'van' in Tokyo is an MPV in this 5-seat class — a full-size 9-seat van like the HiAce isn't on any app. Jumbo taxis are a genuine option if someone in your group can arrange one by phone in Japanese, and shared per-seat shuttles (NearMe and similar) exist for smaller parties — but they're shared, not a private group vehicle. Uber's Tokyo tiers top out at Alphard-class MPVs (the largest, sold as 'Premier Van', seats 5), and Blacklane's biggest Tokyo class — the 'Business Van' — is listed at up to 5 passengers on blacklane.com and runs the same Alphard-class MPVs. Street taxis are 4-seat sedans. The true 9-seat options are all pre-booked: jumbo taxis (phone, mostly Japanese), local van operators like us, or the same operators resold through OTA marketplaces.
