A taxi's real advantage is that it's there without booking, and for one or two people with light bags that's often the sensible choice — we won't pretend otherwise. Where it fits less well is the longer run to Narita Airport. The fare is metered — for this distance it runs about ¥75,000–100,000 with the expressway tolls and booking fee on top, and the meter climbs higher in heavy traffic or with a 20% night surcharge between 22:00 and 05:00. Booked through an app, the figure you accept at request time is an estimate — the card is charged whatever the meter and the taxi company's pickup fee actually come to. A sedan taxi seats only 4 with room for a bag or two, can't fit a child seat, and with a language barrier it's hard to explain exactly where you need to go. Can't I just book an Uber Premier instead — how much is it to Narita Airport?

A note before comparing: Uber's premium tiers (Black / Premier) only cover pickups in Japan's major metro areas and a handful of airports, and Izu isn't on Uber's published coverage list as of July 2026 — so for this pickup it's usually not a bookable option at all. Uber's standard tier, where the app has cars, dispatches a regular metered taxi (about ¥75,000–100,000 here). What time should we leave Izu for an international flight?

For international flights we recommend being at the terminal 3 hours before departure and we plan the pickup around that. Road conditions are outside anyone's control, so we won't put a guaranteed arrival time in writing; what we do is leave real margin rather than cutting it fine.

Can you fit our whole family and all our luggage?

The Alphard seats up to 4 with 4 large suitcases plus personal bags on your lap; the HiAce seats up to 9 with 9 large suitcases — a full-size 9-seat van, a vehicle category that taxis, Uber and chauffeur apps in Japan don't offer at all (their largest options seat 5), so your whole group stays together in one vehicle. We can't judge your bags for you, so if you're near the limit book the larger vehicle. Rear-facing infant seats, forward-facing child seats and booster cushions are ¥2,000 each and need to be booked in advance.

Can we stop for photos or sightseeing along the way?

Karazawa Ryou was our driver. He texted us his contact info via Whatsap the day before our flight. In between flights, we learned that our connecting flight had been delayed. Instead of arriving at 9:15pm, we would now be arriving at I1:30pm.
